Contest provides opportunity to spruce up neighbourhoods

The Winnipeg Real Estate News has launched a contest to reinvigorate community spirit in Winnipeg neighbourhoods.

In conjunction with Hot 103 and Sport Manitoba, the WREN’s Here Comes the Neighbourhood contest 

offers a $1,000 honorarium to put 

towards the implementation of a plan to make your neighbourhood a better place in which to live.

“Tell us what you think your neighbourhood could use to make it a little better,” said WREN general-manager Jo-Anne Wood. 

“Maybe it’s a fixer-upper required for your rec centre?

“Maybe you want to team up with your block to build new soccer nets?”

“Whatever you and your neighbours need, tells us about it or assign a project leader to enter the contest with a story,” she added. “Attach pictures, costs, maps, catalogue numbers, videos; whatever you feel is needed to sell your idea.”

The contest promotes the launch of the WREN’s redesigned website — winnipegrealestatenews.com. Contest details and an entry form are found on the website.

“Every Friday starting June 13,” said Wood, “we’ll choose one project per section of the city and give the 

person with the winning idea a 

$1,000 honorarium from Sport 

Manitoba to make the idea become a reality.

“We’ll award twelve $1,000 prizes in each section of Winnipeg,” she added.

A map outlining the 12 sections of the city is available on the new website.

Winners will be posted on the WREN’s redesigned website along with the winning design concepts.

Hot 103 will visit some of the winning projects to produce videos for display on the WREN website.

“The contest is a good way to show that REALTORS® do more than ‘sell homes’ — they support community spirit and quality of life,” said Wood.

The WREN website has been redesigned to be more user-friendly and provide more information about the city’s real estate market in conjunction with the WinnipegREALTORS® Association’s website — winnipegrealtors.ca —  as well as the many features found weekly in the newspaper.

“I really like the cleaner look and 

the improved functionality (of the redesigned website),” commented WREN reader John Moroz in an e-mail. “Having the capabilities to search within price ranges and to select multiple areas at the same time are also excellent features.”
